SMARTSOURCE is in need of an IBM administrator for a contract in Sherwood, AR

Job Type: contract

Duration: 90 days minimum

Location: SHERWOOD, AR 72124

SUMMARY:

The IBM Power Systems Engineer/Administrator serves as the overall system owner of iSeries mainframe system. This position also configures, upgrades, and administers the IBM Power 7 platform and thus must have expert level knowledge of this platform.Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervises the iSeries Operations Analyst

-

Ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions

-

Provides IBM I, OS/400 i/5 OS support and installation- including V5R4, V6R1, and V7R1

-

Installs and configure interfaces and printer system queues.

-

Strong working knowledge of iNavigator and Systems Director

-

Manages and configure Websphere MQ for Messaging (MQSeries)

-

Provides system monitoring using Robot/Console

-

Exercises judgment and creativity in solving complex and major application implementation issues.

-

Interacts with customer/users to clarify project specifications.

-

Trains technical support staff and users on new enhancements.

-

Participates in disaster planning and testing, evaluating and recommending new technology

-

Manages and administers all iSeries operating systems and their corresponding or associated software.

-

Reports on system health utilizing IBM and third party toolsets.

-

Distributes and supervises iSeries storage space allotments.

-

Conducts research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.

-

Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure products and services

-

Uses PowerTech to perform network and system security audits.

-

Recommends, schedules, and performs software improvements, upgrades, and/or purchases.

-

Routinely tests the generator and UPS to ensure that they are able to provide emergency power when needed.

-

Supports, implements and recommends changes to security policy and processes and actively look for system vulnerabilities and ways to remove or mitigate them.

- Performs other duties as assigned by manager or management

Required Qualifications and Education Requirements:

-

B.S. in Computer Science, Business, or related field of study or equivalent work experience.

-

8+ Years experience IBM i5/iSeries/AS400 Operating System.

-

In-depth knowledge of IBM i5 Work Management, Memory Allocation and Performance Tuning.

-

8+ Years experience with RPG/RPGILE, CLP.

-

V5R3, hardware planning, some development skills with RPG and software testing and implementation,

-

4+ years advance level experience configuring and administering Mimix including performing role swaps.

-

4+ years supervisory experience

-

IBM iSeries certifications in IBM i5/iSeries/AS400 operating systems and toolsets.

-

Experience in developing and implementing business continuity and disaster recovery practices Must have HMC V7, VIOS, and LPAR planning and build experience

-

Working technical knowledge of network, TCP/IP, and platform operating systems, including Linux, UNIX, Solaris, As400

-

IBM I, OS/400 i/5 OS support and installation- including V5R4, V6R1, and V7R1

-

Hands-on experience in managing IBM power system hardware and OS upgrades

-

Practical experience in Cisco IOS, TCP/IP, and cabling systems

-

Extensive experience in LTO tape drives and automated tape library technologies including EMC Data Domains.

-

Solid understanding of disk system concepts ( IBM SVC, V7000, DS8800, EMC external storage, SRDF data replication) and SAN fabrics

-

Ability to quickly implement Vision Mimix for High Availability

-

Expert knowledge in Bsafe Security or PowerTech Network Security

-

System Administration V5R4 or above - Preferred

-

iSeries Technical Solutions Design V5R3 or above - Preferred

-

iSeries LPAR V5R3 or above - Preferred

-

iSeries Implementation V5R3 or above – Preferred

-

Familiar with Websphere Application Server (WAS), HTTP, and Apache

-

Has strong working knowledge in DBU, SQL, Query/400 and Web Query

-

Proficient in COBOL, Basic, C and programming languages.

-

Proficient in OS/400 CL, HTML, PHP Scripting languages

-

Extensive application support experience on IBM mainframes

-

Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

-

Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
