Full Circle FarmCorps Continuous Improvement VISTA
The Arkansas Resource Conservation and Development Council
(ARC&D) is a grassroots nonprofit whose leadership comes from
its sponsors, Conservation Districts and local units of government.
The decision-making body, called a Council, determines the social,
economic, and environmental problems and issues relevant to the
area. The Council then develops and implements a plan with local
citizens in leadership. The ARC&D has recently become the
sponsoring organization for the AmeriCorps State program Full
Circle FarmCorps, the mission of which is to confront food
insecurity and strengthen communities through farming, outreach,
and teaching. While expanding to two regions, the program seeks to
more effectively carry out its mission and improve program
sustainability. After a successful first year under the St. Joseph
Center of Arkansas - including summer COVID-19 response and
partnership with the Arkansas Farm to School program - Full Circle
FarmCorps remains in the formative early phases of growth.
Currently, the program has just one full-time staff member; is
largely grant-funded; and stands in need of further development
with regards to innovative practices from outside sources,
development of policies and procedures, and efficiently
incorporating feedback gathered from the first year of operation so
as to increase effectiveness, equity, and efficiency. Through
ARC&D, Full Circle FarmCorps desires to select an AmeriCorps
VISTA in order to build capacity of the AmeriCorps State program
through their contribution to better practices research and
improved management systems. We want to run a top-notch AmeriCorps
State program, and as the core of any AmeriCorps program is
effective, efficient, and equitable management and development of
the members themselves, we look to learn from better practices and
feedback to set the best foundation for growth possible. Further

Member Duties : The Continuous Improvement VISTA will serve to
build capacity for the ARC&D's AmeriCorps State program, Full
Circle FarmCorps, and ensure that it can better address the issues
of hunger and health in Arkansas, as they relate to poverty.
Specifically, the VISTA will aid ARC&D in serving Arkansas'
food-insecure population through researching better practices and
establishing a sustainable and replicable set of management
practices for the direct service provided by Full Circle FarmCorps.
Alongside the Program Director, the AmeriCorps VISTA member will
research and identify proposed program improvements; organize,
create, and review policy and procedure documents; carry out a
project in their own area of interest; and create resources that
foster continuity and sustainability. The foundations that this
VISTA will provide will contribute to continuous improvement
towards the ongoing mission of ending food insecurity in the state
