SUMMARY: In accordance with our mission and core values, the mental
health technician participates on the patient care team by
providing quality direct patient care which includes but is not
limited to maintenance of therapeutic milieu, provision of a safe,
supportive environment and monitoring and assisting patients with
activities of daily living under the direction of the RN. ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS: 1. COMMUNICATION Utilizes effective, healthy verbal and
non-verbal communication Identifies self and role to others in a
professional manner. Ensures that communication in the presence of
the patient is patient-related Notifies the RN of abnormal vital
signs, I & Os, or changes in the patient condition. Utilizes
communication techniques learned in CPI to de-escalate situations
Maintains confidentiality and dignity of patients 2. PATIENT CARE
Follows individualized patient treatment plan Assists patients to
comply with unit rules, including attendance at activities and
group therapy Maintains a safe environment Performs at prescribed
intervals safety checks on assigned patients and documents checks
Promotes safety boundaries for patient at risk for violence.
Confronts inappropriate patient behavior and redirects patient
conversation and activity Under the direction of the MD and/or the
RN, assists with physically removing patient from area to promote
safety of patient and others when necessary Monitors patient
visitation and assists in screening visitors for contraband
Promotes patient independence and assists with ADL's as needed by
individual patient Contributes to the plan of care and evaluation
of the plan 3. MANAGEMENT OF SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT Maintains
supplies and equipment to facilitate the delivery of patient care.
Completes maintenance requests for damaged equipment or facility.
Stores supplies and equipment properly to promote environmental
safety 4. DOCUMENTATION Documents ADLs, vital signs, and I & Os
according to the plan of care. Documents meals and snacks As
assigned, documents refrigerator/freezer temperature and unit
quality controls. Documents location and behavior of assigned
patients every 15 minutes. Documents contraband and patient
belongings. 5. EDUCATION Provides patient education at a level that
the patient can comprehend Participates in creating positive
experiences for students. Facilitate group therapies. 6.
FLEXIBILITY Demonstrates flexibility in accomplishing work tasks.
Demonstrates healthy adaptation to changing dynamics on the unit

position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School Diploma,
GED, Metropolitan Test, or Equivalent. Basic Medical Terminology.
Experience: At least 1 years of previous psychiatric experience
preferred. Physical Requirements: This job requires, at various
times, the following physical activities; climbing, balancing,
stopping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, carrying,
walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping,
feeling, seeing, talking, and hearing. The individual in this
position may be required to carry or lift weight of up to 50 lbs.
and push/pull 100-150 lbs. Individuals in this position could
possibly be exposed to inside/outside environmental conditions,
blood borne pathogens and body fluids, chemical hazards,
respiratory hazards and radiological hazards. Required to
participate in physical de-escalation with patients as needed.
Skills: Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider from
American Heart Association. Must possess demonstrated communication
skills, excellent customer service skills and ability to deal
effectively with multi-disciplinary team
members/patients/significant others and physicians. Must complete
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) within 90 days of hire.
Ability to critically think and problem solve. Physical and mental
